RE: Been a great summer so far...

Our summer has been going fast. Wish I could say we spent most of it camping but we have camped less this season as our two sons do not like camping. :(

RE: TT vs Hybrid vs Popup

I guess we have different definitions of what a permanent bed is in an RV. By your definition HTT and popups have permanent beds. About having my PMs turned off - I do not.

RE: TT vs Hybrid vs Popup

You might want to look at the Hi-Lo floor plans on their website before you get too excited. Only the largest models have real beds, the others only have dinettes/couches that you have to convert to beds every night. There are no pullouts on a Hi-Lo, the box size you have is all you get. A Trail-Manor, OTOH, at least as real beds. On the Hi-Lo models starting with 24T and up they do have what they call a tip-out. It's equivalent to a slide-out on a regular TT. A TM, OTOH, by design, cannot have a tip/slide-out. All TM models do not have a permanent bed - meaning you can't fold the shells in & down with any kind of mattress pad, sheets, pillows, etc. You cannot leave those items in place as you would with a non-folding TT. Also, TM's require more setup and more maintenance than a Hi-lo.

RE: TT vs Hybrid vs Popup

What about Hi Lo or Trailmanor trailers? I, for one, could not go back to a PUP not matter what the fuel savings. In fact, I about have DW convinced to graduate to a 5'er. Even though we consistently got 14 mpg towing our PUP with my F150 and now only get 10 mpg towing our 6000 lb. trailer, I can't put a price on convenience and comfort. (and to think as a teenager I thought RVs were for sissies) I believe Norman1 said Hi-Lo is not in his budget that would also include Trailmanor as they cost about the same if not more. I went from a TT to a popup and I didn't like it, it is not something that I would recommend. But that is my own preference - someone else will feel the total opposite. You have to decide what is most important to you and your pocketbook. Perhaps you could look for a used one (Hi-Lo) whereas it wouldn't be as expensive. I have a Hi-Lo and we really like it. We bought it new and I only paid $2k more than I did for my TT. We actually started with a HTT then went to a TT. We then downsized our vehicle and got a popup. We hated dealing with the canvas and the setup but loved the low-profile tow so we got a Hi-Lo and never looked back. We get better mpg plus easy tow with it being low profile AND still have the amenities and convenience of a hard-sided camper. We have a Jeep Commander, when towing get 13/14, not towing, 16/17.

RE: after 2 seasons...bye bye PUP.....

Another for the list of pros & cons is the towing difference. The low-profile pup is a much easier tow and you will get better mileage vs a HTT.

RE: Hi-Lo 15 Towlite: any early reports?

Well I don't have the 15T model but I do have the Hi-Lo 22T and we love it. This is our second year on it and so far zero problems. We tow it with a Jeep Commander and it is an easy tow, we are not affected by cross-winds, passing semi's, etc. We are getting better gas mileage because of the low-profile but while in camp mode don't have the issues of dealing with canvas. Plus to raise and lower the top takes only 12 secs with a push of a button. It has performed extremely well in all sorts of weather for us. That includes rain, stormy, heat and cold. The furnace keeps us warm and the AC, cool. I would highly recommend Hi-Lo to anyone. We found everything inside & out to be well made and put together - just not glue and staples. It is really a solid/sturdy trailer.

RE: anyone ran the gamut of,tt,fw,m-homes and thinking pup?

We have taken that trip. Started with a hybrid, then a TT, then a popup. We didn't really care for the popup but did enjoy the low-profile tow so we looked at hard-sided fold-downs and chose our current RV, a Hi-Lo. We enjoy it and primarily use it showering and sleeping or if it's raining. What we didn't like about the popup was rain, storm and winds. They are also less private than a hardside meaning you can hear everything that goes on outside and vice versa. You will also not have the convenience of using the bathroom or stopping for a snack while on the road as you currently do with your MH. Since you say you camp alot the setting up/taking down may get old very fast. You could see about renting one for a weekend and see how it works for you and your family.

RE: hi lo's

We had a light-weight TT prior to purchasing our Hi-Lo. Prices were comparable and as far as towing and mileage the Hi-Lo wins. When towing our TT we got 10 mpg. Add wind, etc, it dropped down to 8. Towing the Hi-Lo we are getting better, 13 mpg. So the low profile does help. Also towing experience is a much better experience than pulling our full size TT.

RE: Floorplan livibility?

I prefer smaller trailers and I think this is a good floorplan for two people. As for making the bed up against the wall one way to work around that is to get a travasak system. It is like a sleeping bag (for 2 people) with removable sheets. We have one and it works great (our bed is not permanent). The only other thing I would consider is the shower. We used to own a hybrid (Trail-Lite Bantam B-19) that had the same bathroom configuration. We found, due to the small size of the shower, we spent majority of the time trying to keep the shower curtain from sticking to us while trying to bathe. If we would have kept it I probably would've tried to come up with something to prevent that.

RE: HI-Lo Experiences

We have a 2007 22T Hi-Lo and we really like it. There is a Hi-Lo group on Yahoo that is pretty active. The president from Hi-Lo trailers watches the board and posts as well as another Hi-Lo employee. You will need to join the group before you can read and post. Yahoo Hi-Lo group

RE: hi lo's

the good, great if you need to put them in your garage due to local restrictions. no doubt less air resistance and lower center of gravity. the bad. no/limited outside storage. baths/showers suck. the hanging closet is designed wrong IMHO. should be ceiling mounted bar which lowers. limited inside storage. more stuff to go wrong. years ago I was at a dealer that handled them and they also had a standard hard side unit that looked exactly the same for a bunch less money. don't know if the same company made them. FWIW, I much prefer the HiLo to the TrailManor myself. where you have to lay down the closet to close it is not good design IMHO. and having to snap together the bath, sucks. also much more to go wrong. almost as cumbersome as a popup. bumpy Have you actually owned one of these trailers? no but I have extensively looked at them and other units over the course of many years considering them, and other RVs. well I considered the Hi-Lo, not the trail manor. the defects in them turned me off. I also have never had a colonoscopy but from my extensive studies and reading about them, don't want one of them either. :p bumpy Funny! :) To the OP, as you see there are many opinions. I would recommend on checking the Hi-Lo Yahoo group out if you haven't done so already. Yahoo Hi-Lo Group

RE: hi lo's

No, I'm not confusing the two. Our dealer sells HiLos, and we saw one before the inside was set up for camping. There is setup involved. Maybe not with your model, but there is with this one (a large one) - interior walls & such. Go to Hi-Lo's site and tell me which model needs additional setup inside...there is not one from the smallest 15T to their largest 28C. For the ones with the tipout, you have to tip it out but it is no different from a TT or 5er with a slideout.

RE: hi lo's

I think kknowlton is confusing a Hi-Lo with a TrailManor. TrailManors take more setup and time. Hi-Lo sets up in 12 seconds and there is no further setup inside so yes, you can and we do all the time stop for potty breaks and/or eating lunch at a rest stop - it's just takes an additional 12 SECONDS compared to a regular TT or 5er. What we like: the low profile towing (easy tow and we get better mileage towing our Hi-Lo compared to our past full size TT), ease of setup/takedown (push of a button), reliability (on 2nd year and have had zero problems), sturdy and well made RV. What we don't: we have a 22T and dinette is a little small to fully sit 4 people. Being the top lowers down, the fridge has to sit on the floor so you always have to bend over to get food in/out. I think if I had to do it again I would have gone with the 24T which has a big dinette plus it has the tip-out (slide-out). We really like our Hi-Lo and recommend them to anyone who is interested in a hard-sided fold-down. TrailManor was mentioned and we looked at those too before purchasing and IMO there is NO comparison.

RE: Is Fleetwood the only one with flushable toliet?

Fleetwood's Evolution, Destiny, and Americana series offer cassette toilets. Their Highlander series (high-wall) offers the toilets with a black tank. I do not know if any other popup brand, other than Fleetwood, offer this.

RE: NOT A PUP BUT IT IS A FOLDING TRAILER

I have checked the used market: There's currently a '04 Trailmanor 3124KB for sale nearby. They want $15,460 for it (full disclosure: I haven't inquired about it, nor researched to see if the asking price is reasonable). I understand that they hold their value because of their quality construction - but they're still out of my price range, even on the used market... I would like to know who or where says they hold their value better than any other RV officially. I'm not talking about anything the factory printed or said or a TM ower.

RE: HI-LO Hydraulic pump

Hi - I have and am familiar with Hi-Los however I'm not sure what is happening with yours. Perhaps post your question on the Yahoo Hi-Lo group, there are several people who might be able to help plus couple of poster work at the Hi-Lo factory itself. You will need to join the group to read and post messages. Yahoo Hi-Lo Group

RE: lets share what we have in small TT

Glad that a forum was created for small TT's! Don't know if we qualify but we have a 22ft Hi-Lo and we really love it, easy tow and much better mileage compared to when we had full size trailers, even compared to when we had a 19ft hybrid TT. The biggest TT we had was a 27ft, never again. We prefer smaller, easier plus we prefer state parks where sites are smaller and don't really accommodate the big rigs. As someone already posted, we use the TT for sleeping and showering or getting out of wet/rainy weather, otherwise we're outside. OK, we also use the TT for napping! :)

RE: Smaller TT's gaining popularity

We had a 19 footer, then 27, didn't make much difference in mileage. We now have a Hi-Lo (22 ft) and there is a difference, towing it we get a slight decrease in mileage. Also, since it is low profile it is a much easier tow than our full size trailers.
